Boardwalk and Seawall Update October 2025
We have been informed by Hampshire
County Council that work on the King Charles III footpath is
likely to start early next month. The boardwalk will be
installed after the bridge repairs and work on paths. Very
approximately, and if all goes according to plan, this will
finish in the second week of December. As you will be aware,
these developments have been signed off by the Secretary of
State and cannot be changed.
The focus for the Council of
Management has been to ensure that the seawall, which protects
the whole estate, is protected and that we retain access for
inspection and maintenance. We will install gabion baskets with
infill of any gaps between them and our wall. An access
agreement will cover removal of the boardwalk if required.
Undertaking the installation of
gabions now, gives us the opportunity to save money and means
that our works are covered by the King Charles III project
permissions (e.g. from the Environment Agency and Chichester
Harbour Conservancy), Construction and Design Management
Regulations notification, and risk assessments. These are
otherwise very complex, costly and time consuming to obtain.
